Sustainability

The 2030 Agenda for sustainable development

Aiming for socially, economically and ecologically sustainable development

Sustainable management is also becoming increasingly important in industry. Taking more responsibility for people and nature, both at the company and product level. Conscious use of resources, environmentally friendly production chains that go hand in hand with CO2 savings. But sustainability and equal opportunities in the social sphere, i.e. the handling and training of personnel, are also important points. A high-performance industry is only sustainable if the environment is intact.

Spectra faces up to its responsibility!

Workplace

Together with our company doctor and the trade association, we continuously develop our employees' workplaces from an ergonomic point of view.

In this way, we prevent health problems caused by incorrect stress and promote the well-being of our staff.

Training

We have been a training company for decades and provide high-quality training in various professions.

Many of our former trainees are now not only employees but also know-how carriers in our company.

Staff

Our employees are not anonymous individuals, but part of a whole. They come from different cultures, with different languages, skills and needs. We see this diversity as a valuable asset and an enrichment.

We make no distinctions regarding the gender or origin of our workforce. Everyone is seen and valued as an individual. As of today, for example, we have just as many women as men in management positions.

Drinking water

Fortunately, we have "clean water" in Germany. We also use our tap water as drinking water and have set up corresponding drinking water dispensers on each floor for this purpose.

This means that we use our tap water not only for washing our hands but also for drinking, thus avoiding the production and transport of beverage bottles.

Photovoltaic System

Since 2010, we have been operating our photovoltaic system, which covers the entire roof of our production and logistics building. With this, we generate an average of 95,000 kWh of clean electricity per year.

By using our photovoltaic system, we can significantly reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and thus the emission of CO2, thus making a valuable contribution to environmental and climate protection.

Electromobility

We have already started to convert our company vehicles to hybrid vehicles. This will reduce emissions of particulate matter and improve air quality.

We are currently planning to install e-charging stations on our premises for charging our vehicles. Our e-vehicles will then use electricity from renewable energy sources (photovoltaics).

Power saving systems

Energy consumption in IT is an essential point in sustainability considerations. We rely on energy-saving technologies for our computer systems. These are for example energy-efficient power supplies as well as energy-saving processors and chipsets.

With these measures, the energy consumption of a computer system can be significantly reduced and considerable energy savings can be achieved over the entire service life.

Long-term availability

The product life cycle of a product is an important factor when considering sustainability. The products we offer are designed for long-term operation. Here, 10 years is not uncommon. We achieve this through high MTBF times compared to consumer products.

This means that fewer products have to be bought over the lifetime of the product. On the other hand, we achieve this by ensuring that spare parts are available over a long period of time.

Air conditioning

We have invested in an energy-efficient company building at our headquarters. This includes good insulation, intelligent shading and efficient heating and air conditioning. The production and logistics building is equipped with energy-efficient turbulators

to bring the heat accumulating on the hall ceiling back down to ground level by means of a laminar air flow. This saves heating energy and also ensures a pleasant indoor climate.

Lighting

We have long since replaced our fluorescent tube lighting in production and logistics with energy-saving LED lighting.

In logistics, the lighting is automatically switched on and off when an employee enters or leaves a storage area (shelf aisle).

Industrial trucks

All our industrial trucks (forklift trucks, multifunctional vehicles) are electrically powered. This is not only a contribution to climate protection, but also to a healthy workplace.

This is because electrically powered ground transport vehicles are not only emission-free and thus particularly environmentally friendly, but also offer the advantage of lower noise generation.

Less plastic

In our shipping division, we rely on renewable raw materials instead of plastic and use recycled paper for the filling material. This saves us a large amount of plastic, the production of which uses the finite resource of crude oil.

It is not uncommon for plastic, which can take up to thousands of years to decompose, to end up as microplastic in our rivers and oceans. This endangers the health of both marine animals and humans.

Digital Office

We are continuously reducing the use of paper in our business processes, i.e. most processes are already fully digitally implemented.

Less paper means less wood is needed and therefore protects our forests.

Partners & Suppliers

Wherever possible, we rely on regional companies for our partners and service providers. The local proximity results in lower expenses for travel and transport.

We attach great importance to ensuring that our suppliers have the same understanding of sustainability as we do. We check this during regular on-site audits.
